Editorial Standards·No conflicts of interest

Our Editorial Independence

We built CreditUnionDirectory.ca because Canadians deserve a truly independent source for credit union information: verified data, transparent methodology, and no financial ties to any credit union.

Zero commissionsNo paid credit union placements

The short version

CreditUnionDirectory.ca does not receive money from credit unions. We do not earn commissions when you join one. We do not accept payment from credit unions for better rankings or featured placement. Our data comes directly from each credit union's own website and is independently verified. We have no financial incentive to promote any institution over another.

Our editorial principles

Hard rules, applied to every listing on this site.

No commissions, ever

We earn zero referral fees, signup bonuses, or commissions from any credit union. Our rankings reflect data, nothing else.

No paid credit union placements

Credit union listings in our directory cannot be purchased or upgraded for a fee. Every credit union appears based on the same objective criteria. There is no 'sponsored' or 'featured' tier for credit unions.

Advertising is separate from editorial

This site carries third-party display advertising served automatically by Google AdSense. We do not control which specific advertisers appear in those placements.

Primary-source data only

Rates, fees, and product details are sourced directly from each credit union's official website. We verify what's actually published on each institution's live pages.

Regular verification

Our automated system checks rates directly from each credit union's website regularly. Each listing shows when it was last verified and the confidence level of the data. We flag data that cannot be independently confirmed.

Algorithmic rankings

Our ratings and rankings are calculated algorithmically from publicly available data, applied consistently across all listings.

How we collect and verify data

Our five-step research process ensures rates and information reflect what credit unions actually publish, verified directly from each institution's live pages.

1

Discover

We identify Canadian credit unions from regulatory filings, provincial regulator lists, and publicly available directories. Every credit union with a public website is eligible for inclusion.

2

Research

Our system visits each credit union's official website and collects rates, product details, contact information, and eligibility requirements from their own published pages.

3

Verify

Data is reviewed and assigned a confidence level: 'Verified (Official Source)' means the rate was found on a dedicated rates page. Lower confidence scores are shown transparently.

4

Update

Rates change. Our system re-checks listings regularly to catch changes. The 'last checked' date is shown on every profile so you know how fresh the data is.

5

Publish

All credit unions meeting our data quality threshold are published, regardless of their size, province, or whether they have any relationship with CreditUnionDirectory.ca.

Data confidence levels

Credit unions vary in how prominently and consistently they publish rate information. We display a confidence level on every rate we publish (High, Medium, or Low) so you can weigh the data accordingly before acting on it.

Verified (Official Source)

Rate found on a dedicated rates page on the credit union's official website. Highest confidence.

High

Rate found on the credit union's website but not on a dedicated rates page, such as a product page or FAQ.

Medium

Rate inferred from available content with some ambiguity. Treat as a starting point and verify before making decisions.

Low

Rate could not be independently confirmed from the credit union's website. Not displayed publicly.

Our mission

Credit unions serve over 13 million Canadians and often offer meaningfully better financial products than the major banks. Yet they're dramatically under-covered by financial media that's dominated by bank advertising. We exist to change that, one independently verified listing at a time.
