How we collect and verify data

We follow a six-step process for every institution we add to the directory. The goal is to rely on primary sources, namely the credit union's own official channels, wherever possible.

01

Source identification

We identify each credit union's official rate page, the same URL their own members use. We do not rely on aggregator feeds or third-party data brokers.

02

Manual rate capture

Rates are read and recorded directly from official sources. Where rates are posted as a range, we record the highest publicly available non-promotional rate.

03

Confidence tagging

Every rate entry is tagged as Verified (sourced from the official rate page), Estimated (derived from secondary sources), or Unavailable (not publicly disclosed). We show this status on profile pages.

04

Profile data compilation

Non-rate fields (eligibility, products, deposit insurance, digital access) are researched from official websites, provincial regulator disclosures, and credit union annual reports.

05

Editorial review

Profiles are reviewed for completeness and accuracy before publishing. Profiles with missing or low-confidence data are flagged for follow-up.

06

Ongoing maintenance

We monitor rate pages for changes and update records on a rolling basis. Our goal is monthly verification for active institutions, with last-reviewed dates shown on every profile.

Accuracy & limitations

We take our research seriously, but financial data moves. Here's what you need to know before using rate or feature information from this site.

Rates change without notice

Credit unions can adjust their posted rates at any time, sometimes daily for HISA rates. The rate you see on our site reflects the most recent figure we captured from the institution's official source. Always confirm the current rate directly with the credit union or on their official rate page before making a financial decision.

Data may be out of date

Despite regular reviews, there may be a lag between when a credit union updates its rates and when we reflect that change. We display a "last reviewed" date on each profile so you can judge how current the information is. Profiles marked with lower confidence ratings have not been recently verified from primary sources.

Eligibility rules can vary

Some credit unions have nuanced eligibility criteria that aren't fully captured in a short summary field. We strongly recommend reviewing the credit union's own membership page or calling them directly to confirm your eligibility before applying.

We are not responsible for reliance on this data

CreditUnionDirectory.ca is an independent information resource, not a licensed financial adviser. All information is provided for research and comparison purposes only. We are not responsible for decisions made on the basis of information contained on this site, nor for inaccuracies that result from changes made by institutions after our most recent review. If you notice a rate or detail that appears incorrect, please let us know. We review all submissions and update our records promptly.

Independent by design

We do not accept referral fees, sponsored placements, or commissions from any credit union. No institution can pay to improve its ranking or appear higher in search results. Our ratings and rankings are based solely on the data we collect.
